Third Coast CFAR Seminar: Results From CFAR Pilot Awards with Ramon Lorenzo-Redondo, PhD, and Kimberly Stanford, MD, MPH
Ramon Lorenzo-Redondo, PhD, and Kimberly Stanford, MD, MPH, will present the results of their Third Coast CFAR pilot awards. Immediately following the seminar, Drs. Lorenzo-Redondo and Stanford will participate in a Let’s Talk Research! hybrid community event, co-sponsored by CFAR and the Village. "New molecular approaches to study the dynamics of HIV-1 tissue reservoirs”

Dr. Lorenzo-Redondo is an assistant professor of Medicine (Infectious Diseases) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. His work focuses on viral evolution and the interaction between viruses and the host during infection. Dr. Lorenzo-Redondo’s main interests are RNA viruses, specifically HIV-1, evolutionary biology, and genomics. The ultimate goal of his research is to understand the virus-host system and its evolutionary properties in order to develop the best treatments and prevention strategies for human viral infections.

“HIV prevention and linkage to PrEP through Emergency Department syphilis screening”

Dr. Stanford is an assistant professor in Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago and the director of ED HIV and STI Screening at the Chicago Center for HIV Elimination (CCHE). Her research focuses on the use of the emergency department visit to address the social determinants of health, including infectious diseases, including HIV and STI screening, linkage to care, and HIV prevention; sexual and reproductive health; homelessness; and human trafficking. She is currently funded by a K23 from NIAID to study implementation science methods to inform program development, implementation, and expansion, with the goal of improving early diagnosis and access to care through innovative ED screening and referral programs.
